SHELTER AND NFI PIPELINE

Cabo Delgado, once renowned for its crystal-clear beaches, landscapes with palm trees and baobabs, and vibrant communities, faced a dramatic transformation in 2017 due to armed conflict. This upheaval has, to date, displaced over 700,000 people (IOM DTM 2024), leaving countless families without homes, food, or livelihoods.

The linked stories below illustrate the resilience and determination of families who, supported by the Common Pipeline, strive to rebuild their lives amidst the ongoing crisis.

In 2020, Berta fled violence with her two daughters, seeking refuge in Metuge, where a kind host community offered her land to build a home. She worked hard, selling traditional beverages to fund the construction. However, over time, and with the wear and tear from rain and wind, the house deteriorated and became unsafe for her and her family. Read more

Justina Josefo peels sweet potato, her grandchildren playing nearby with a makeshift toy fashioned from a bicycle wheel. Her thoughts drift to 2021, when armed groups turned her village upside down, forcing her family to flee Tingine, Nangade District. Read more

Ntotwe located between Mueda and Mocimboa da Praia, has endured five recent attacks from the armed groups. It left over 50 houses burned, and the school and church partially destroyed. “We used to love traditional music, but now even the sound of drums makes our hearts stop, fearing another attack.”

The Long Road: A Mother’s Quest to Cure Her Child

It was nine years ago, back in 2015, when *Amelia's life took an unexpected turn. A routine day at the farm with her daughter *Maria, then just six years old, would redefine their lives.

This was unusual, as Maria loved spending time at the farm. Sensing her daughter’s fatigue, Amelia suggested she rest for a while. But when she checked on Maria, she was horrified to find her foaming at the mouth.

Selling their product at the local market, these women are not only generating income but also planning to reinvest in tools to expand their business and hire more community members. They're paving the way for growth and opportunity in their village.
