IOM Steps Up Humanitarian Support in Northern Mozambique with Backing from the Republic of Korea Official launch of the project funded by the Republic of Korea ©IOM 2025 Gerson Fanequico Maputo, Mozambique 02 May 2025 – Today, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) officially launched a project to strengthen support for communities in northern Mozambique, which continue to face the impacts of violence and climate-related disasters. With funding from the Republic of Korea Permanent Mission to the United Nations and in close collaboration with Mozambique's National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD), IOM is implementing an area-based approach (ABA)—a strategy that goes beyond immediate aid to promote long-term recovery and resilience. By addressing the needs of both displaced and host communities within a specific geographic area, ABA considers housing, infrastructure, services, livelihoods, and social cohesion to create sustainable solutions that benefit the entire community.
