Over 1.1 million people across eight provinces in Mozambique, including Gaza, Inhambane, Manica, Maputo, Sofala, Tete, Niassa, and Zambezia, have been affected by the compounding effects of Cyclone Freddy and previous flooding, as well as the cholera outbreak.
Over 369,000 people have already received assistance, and IOM is increasing its efforts to support the Mozambican government in providing life-saving assistance to the affected population including emergency shelter, non-food items through the IOM Shelter NFI Pipeline, site management services in active Accommodation Centres as well as new sites through Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) interventions, Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services, primary healthcare services and hygiene promotion, including prevention of cholera, and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
There are still significant gaps due to the vast geographic area impacted, and IOM needs at least USD 10 million to adequately respond to the needs for information management, Health and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
