IOM Internal Displacement Flash Update #1 (Northern Mozambique Crisis)

Dear partners,

You will find here the IOM Internal Displacement Flash Update #1 Northern Mozambique Crisis.

Between December 22nd, 2023, and March 1st, over 80,000 individuals in northern Mozambique have been displaced due to recent Non-State Armed Groups attacks in Macomia, Chiure, and Mecufi. This marks the second-largest displacement event since 2017.

IOM has been providing vital support to affected communities, including shelter, health services, mental health and psychosocial support, protection, displacement tracking, site management and coordination efforts.

As of March 1st, Emergency Non-Food Item kits have been distributed to 1,255 households through the Joint Response Programme with UNICEF and WFP.

The increasing number of people in need is surpassing available stock, putting thousands at risk, particularly women, children, and the elderly.

For a comprehensive overview, please take a moment to read the full report.

Warm regards,

IOM Mozambique
